Last September, one my good friends from college tied the knot. Russell was kinda an inherited friend — he went to high school with Yusuke before Yusuke joined me at IMSA. So, when I went to UIUC and roomed with Yusuke, I ended up hanging out a lot with Russell and Cameron. Russell is a very likable guy. In fact, he would annoy me greatly because whenever we went out places, people were always coming up to us and greeting him. He was always knowing people. Infuriating. Anyways, after graduating, he went up to Wisconsin to work for Kimberly-Clark, becoming our go-to guy for absorbables. Early last year I found out that he had become engaged to a lucky lady, and was planning his wedding for later on that year. When I found out that Yusuke was engineering his vacation to coincide with the wedding, I knew I had to make it. A number of the pictures below showcase his adorable daughter Itsuki. I often wonder what goes through the head of young children when they visit another country where they don’t speak the same language. I mean, it’s gotta be weird to get into a big metal tube, appear in a strange new area with lots of strange looking people, and all of a sudden no one understands you! Maybe I’m just underestimating the youth of today.

This is a blurry picture of Itsuki in our hotel room. Check out the crocs! Keep her away from escalators….

Apparently, she’s had enough of us, and will see us later. But what an adorable exit!

This is the dress that Itsuki was going to wear to the wedding. She kept on asking us if it was cute. Such a typical woman, always needing compliments.

After the ceremony, we all gathered out front to congratulate the couple. Yusuke is playing to his Japanese stereotype, taking pictures. Next to him is Steve, one of my roommates in Grad School one year.

One of the wedding favors was bubble making..uh…fluid. So of course, Russ had to walk through a small cloud of bubbles.

This was a bit of a reunion for Russell’s high school friends, a group that I’ve hung out with on a number of occasions. This includes Cameron, of course, but also their friend Liz, who brought her date Tonya. Here we all are entering the reception, and apparently dancing. And apparently I gave my camera to someone to take the picture. I don’t really remember this.

Cameron and Liz are still dancing.

Lindsay greets us all at the reception.

Adam does the honors of the Best Man’s toast. Also, he rocks the cummerbund.

Liz, me, Cameron, and Adam at the end of the night, probably.

This is a bit out of order, but whatever. Last July, I decided to spend Independence day in Seattle, visiting my good friends Cameron and Gina. It was my first visit to their place since their kid, Ariana, was born. My visit was also a catalyst for our old college friend, Dave, to visit from Champaign. I think he enjoyed the west coast.

I had heard that Seattle put on a decent fireworks show, but due to budget restrictions, they canceled it that year. After a furious donation drive effort, though, Seattleites raised enough money to put on the show anyways. Personally, I think that’s a bad precedent to set. Now, they’ll never get funding for a fireworks show. Anyways, we were going to go to the fireworks show, but the weather was somewhat uncertain, and we had a baby to transport as well. So we decided not to go to the fireworks, but try and check it out from the upstairs balcony, which technically had a view. But some trees were blocking the view of some of the shells, so we decided to check it out on the TV. After watching it on TV for a while….we remembered that watching fireworks on TV is usually not very entertaining. So we watched a movie. However, I did enjoy reflecting on this gradual descent through various levels of laziness.

Since this was Dave’s first time in Seattle, we did the rounds of some touristy places. First up, Pike’s place market, since that’s a very touristy thing to do. I almost picked up a hand-made Kindle cozy.

I just liked how Ari’s feet poked out here. Just airing them out!

Cameron and Gina live quite close to Green Lake, so they often walk around it to get some fresh air. Dave and I joined in the fun as well. Cameron is doing his part to reduce the mosquito population around the lake.

That night, we did a little grilling outside. I noticed that there were quite a few slugs crawling around. This was a pretty good example.

Bad Dream? From this picture, it looks like she’s about to cry.

It’s probably one of those dreams where she has to give a speech in front of her classmates and then realizes she forgot to wear pants. Or she can’t stop sneezing.

Nevermind. False Alarm. It was just probably some gas.

We stopped by Gina’s office at the University of Washington. This little plaza is conspicuously oriented so as to showcase Mt. Rainier, which you can just barely make out in this picture.

Rainier, closer.

Mt. Rainier is a pretty nice looking mountain, I have to say. But I feel that way about most volcanoes, I think, mostly because they are always so spectacularly solitary.

Wowsers! I’m only six months behind on my updates.

I hate crossing time zones for personal trips. The flights are always so inconveniently timed and long. So when it comes time for the year-end holidays, I tend to stay on the West Coast. For Thanksgiving last year, I visited my friends Cameron and Gina up in Seattle. Looking back, most of these pictures are of their < 1 year old daughter, Ariana (aka Ari). Partially, that's because we didn't do a whole lot of exciting, picture worthy things. But mostly, it's because she is phenomenally cute. So yeah, enjoy pictures of squirmy happy baby. Again, I was too lazy to grab my camera most of the time, so most of the pictures and videos are with my phone.

Ari has an interesting hair pattern at this age.

I hate using flash on kids. But here you can clearly see the “forelock”.

Babies are surprisingly strong. Ari is a pretty giggly baby, especially when Daddy is involved.

Here is Ari along with the Thanksgiving feast. Now, you have a frame of reference for how big the turkey was. Note : the turkey was purchased from a farm which practiced humane raising of turkeys (up until the killing part, as well), so we could rest assured that the turkey had a pretty good life, at least as far as turkeys go.

Ari is really good at picking up things and banging them on the table.

The sound got screwed up on this one, but it’s really just Ari squirming and trying to hit the table with a spoon.

Shame on Cameron for using a baby to shield himself from my camera.

I was very impressed at Maki’s ability to rest her head on all of her feet as well as her tail.

Ari already has a leg up on joining the information age. And being a pretentious Mac user.

I find it enjoyable when children take pleasure in the simplest things. Woo-hoo! Paper!

Ari looks pretty happy here….But what girl wouldn’t be happy in Jeet’s arms?

I have no idea what her parents are doing to make her giggle so much.

I felt like there was some sort of Picture of Dorian Gray thing going on, because Ari’s hair is concentrated on where I’m losing it the most. I was hoping to capture that in a picture, but no dice. If there was more flash, you would probably be able to see it shine off of my head.

Wait…if Mommy and Daddy are looking at me…who’s holding me???!!???

Maki loves it when I visit, because I’m the only one who pays her attention. As soon as I show up, she runs up to me and rolls over so that I can give her a belly rub.

Back in October 2010, I traveled back to Chicagoland for the wedding of one of my cousins. Due to the frenetic pace of school/work and the time/cost of travel, I rarely see any of my relatives. Because my Floridian sister can’t stand the cold (scientifically speaking), she rarely ventures North during the non-summer months. However, all bets are off for weddings. Family weddings are generally Rao-fests, where I see the relatives that I never see otherwise. This one was nicely timed, in that it was also my birthday. I forgot my camera on this trip, so I started taking pictures with my cell phone. It is a functional camera and can take decent videos, but the still image quality leaves a lot to be desired. So I’ve supplemented these pictures with pictures from my sister and my cousin Tara.

A while ago I found this dinosaur rocker on kids.woot, and it was just too adorable to pass up. There was also a cow version…but my Hindu background felt that it was kind of sketchy.

Here is Sachin demonstrating how it’s done. I was concerned that he would be so enthusiastic it would keel over.

Yeah! Sippy cup!

Unlike most babies, Sachin is not suspicious of me. I think.

My cousin Girish was also in town for the wedding, so he got some Sachin time as well.

Sachin shows off his Halloween costume. It’s a really cute monkey suit, but he’s moving around too much to get a clear picture.

I like this picture because it sorta looks like he’s gone crazy, out of control, jumping on furniture and running amok! My sister tries to grab a hold of him, but he’s unstoppable! At least he’s not throwing poop.

Thankfully the monkey is now under control.

Here’s someone else’s picture, using flash so it’s not blurry.

I asked if the banana was sewn in or was velcro-ed. They said that if it wasn’t sewn in, it would have already been eaten.

Nicely enough, this wedding coincided with my birthday. This was quite a unique occasion — it had been probably 10 years since I celebrated my birthday with all the rest of my family. My sister got me a Whole Foods cake. I could taste the hippiness.

Okay, so I forgot my camera, so was forced to rely on my cellphone for everything, which resulted in pretty horrible pictures. But you can see some blurry bridesmaids and a blurry pastor and a blurry emcee, I think.

The bride and groom exit the ceremony. Blurrily.

By the many arms of Vishnu, that’s a lot of Indians! Here’s a picture of all sorts of people that are in some way related to me. I think I spend a lot of time out in the sun compared to everyone else.

Sachin cleans up pretty well, although I think he forgot his dress shoes. He had a good time picking things up, and then throwing them on the floor.

Here are my sisters along with the bride. I like how every person is looking at a different camera, indicating that there are at least 3 cameras pointed at them.

Here are the bride and groom, Michael and Shiela.

Last August, I went to Colorado for the NREL‘s 20th Silicon Workshop. This is a really nice conference series concentrating on crystalline silicon photovoltaics (as opposed to thin-film silicon, CIGS, Cd-Te, and solar thermal). It’s a nice mix of industry and academia (mostly industry), and the sessions touched upon the current problems facing the industry as well as a look into the future of the technology. It also happened to be in Breckenridge, a ski resort town. Of course, it was August, so there was no snow on the ground, but it was still a picturesque area. I was intrigued because Breckenridge sits at about 9,000 ft in elevation, which is already close to the highest I’ve been (on land). So, this trip not only offered a chance to learn about silicon photovoltaics (awesome), I could do a little bit of hiking on the nearby mountains and hit a personal best for hiking altitude.

Anyways, here are some pictures of the trip. I didn’t take very many; it was raining most of the time and I didn’t get to really explore so much.

On one of the free afternoons of the conference, I rounded up some people and headed out for some hiking. The weather did not look like it would be cooperating very much, but we headed out to the gondola during a dry spell. Here’s a picture of me with mountains in the background. I’m pretty excited, because this will be the highest altitude I’ve ever been at (air travel not included). My camera is pretty far from my target bench, so I kinda had to book it to get into position. A group of old ladies nearby found this quite amusing.

We took the gondolas up to a ski lift, which would take us up to about 12,000 feet. The ski lift entrance also had this sort of low-tech amusement area. Here’s a combination bungee thing and trampoline. It seems like it’s designed to exert the maximum amount of g-forces on young children. I forget how exactly it worked, but I guess all that harnessing keeps the child from flying off of the mountain.

I kept a lookout for bears, but couldn’t see any. They were probably camouflaged.

Breckenridge is at about 9,000 ft, so we’re well above 10,000 feet now. The clouds look ominous.

We found this sign up on the mountain, which I thought was a little curious. Our thought is that there are explosives of some sort stored here, maybe for pre-emptive avalanche maintenance. The other thought is that perhaps fire is an endangered species in Colorado, and this is some sort of Fire Preserve.

This was a decent shot down into the valley below. The wildflowers were still around on the mountainside.

The altitude was definitely getting to me. This path was quite a hard slog.

The weather was looking worse and worse, and we knew that the ski lift back down would stop running if the weather got too bad. So, this is where we decided to turn around. I found a decent looking rock (seen on the previous image) where I could place the camera, and I was frankly just impressed that I got everyone’s head in there.

We managed to get back to the lift before major weather headed our way. We were one of the last ones to leave the mountain.

This wasn’t a very long hike (actually, it was really really short), but I did achieve a personal altitude record, so it was a good novelty run.

Back in May, I took a long weekend and traveled back to Chicago for my nephews very first birthday. It was the first time I had seen him since last August, so he had grown up quite a bit, and was on the very verge of walking. My other sister was traveling up from Florida, and a bunch of rugrats were invited over to ensure that chaos would ensue.

Interacting with Sachin is interestingly different from a lot of other kids. In the limited interaction that I’ve had with my other friends’ young kids, I feel like I’m met with a bit of skepticism. Like, they are not sure if I’m for real or not, and they take a while before they feel like they can address my existence. For Sachin, he took to me pretty quickly. I think that the most simple explanation is that unlike my other friends with little kids, I look a lot like his Mommy and Daddy. Sachin showed little hesitation in crawling up to me, pulling on my pant legs to bring himself to his feet, and then asking to be picked up.

In the pictures below, you’ll notice that there aren’t a whole lot of actual birthday party pictures. That’s because I was pressed into camcorder duty, and was thus unable to use my own camera. However, there are a lot of other pictures of doing cute little Sachin things that I’m sure people can enjoy. You can blame the graininess of the pictures on the fact that I used a high ISO setting to combat his fidgety-ness.

Sachin loves his mommy. And cameras.

At this point, Sachin was just learning to walk. His crawling is a little faster, and he can’t go very far without falling or grabbing on to furniture for support. We thought we would entice him with the shaky noisemaker thing, but it looks like he was more interested in the mommy & daddy food.

Sometimes you just want to sit back, relax, and put your feet up on the kitchen table.

Sachin has an adorable habit of wanting to hold things in his hands, and wave them around. Ideally, the two items should be of similar shape, size, and color. In this case, he decided that socks did not belong on his hat, but in his hands. He would literally hold onto these socks for hours, unless they were taken away or better objects were given to him. I suggest they give him flags for 4th of July. He also likes to mess with doors, like you can see here.

When I watch this video, I always think of that Deep Thought (by Jack Handey) that goes "To me, it’s always a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?" you can say, "Sorry, got these sacks." Sachin could probably feed himself, but he’s holding two socks, so hey, Grandma has to feed him. Here is also the first documented instance of the "furrowed brow" that he unleashes from time to time for no good reason. It’s hilarious. Seriously, the furrowed look is something that he will reminded of constantly when he gets older, in the most embarrassing situations possible.

Grandma doesn’t like to always get him off scott free during meal time, so this time he needs to work for his strawberry.

Sachin was being really fussy at dinner and whining a lot, so Alok had to use his iPhone to placate him with some video. Towards the end of this video, you also see another Sachinism — the tongue waggle.

Much like last year, my Mom visited me in February. However, things were better than last year. First of all, we weren’t both sick. Second of all, she was able to stay 2 weeks instead of just 1. And third, it didn’t rain all the whole time, just part of the time.

I wasn’t really in a position to take a lot of vacation time, so there weren’t any awesome road trips, but we did manage to see some things when the weather permitted. First off, we visited the Winchester Mystery House, a interesting little tourist trap in San Jose. Basically, the heir to the Winchester Rifle fortune used her husband’s legacy to build a rambling, chaotic house. No pictures allowed, though, of the inside, so no photographic evidence.

The weekend after that, it was a rainy day, so we went to do some museuming in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, where we visited the Conservatory of Flowers, the Science Museum, the Art Museum, and a Japanese Tea Garden. And the day after, we visited a state park to see some redwoods.

Whenever I look over these pictures, I usually find that I forgot to take many pictures of actual people. That is true in this set as well. It’s quite flower-filled, at my Mom’s request. But still, hope you enjoy.

The forecast called for rain, but it was still clear in the morning, so we elected to hit the Conservatory of Flowers, a building dedicated to…uh…flowers. Here are some pictures from the Special Exhibit, which was a large model railroad scene of San Francisco made out of garbage. Fittingly enough, this Chinatown Gate is composed of Mahjong tiles. Perhaps stereotypically, it is also composed of cut up printed circuit boards (it looks like a motherboard).

There were a number of these small nature models around. The story behind this art form is that an ancient Chinese Emperor never wanted to leave his palace, but he wanted to see all the fantastic regions of his land. So he had people make little models of his country, in effect making his empire visit him instead of the other way around.

After the conservatory, we headed off to the California Academy of Sciences. Right now, we’re in their little model of a rain forest, which consists of a ramp spiraling upward around the periphery of a little micro forest, complete with animals and insects and everything. At each floor, they would have a bunch of glass terrariums with animals that they didn’t want scurrying around. This one had geckos in it, just hanging out on the walls. Here is a short video of leaf cutter ants doing their thing. They put this branch and leaf source near a railing within clear view of visitors. It may be hard to see, but you should at least be able to see leaf pieces making their way up the branch.

Here is a poison dart frog. In nature, poisonous animals are often bright colors so as to warn potential predators to stay away. The Academy probably had a tough time with choosing animals for this rain forest. For one, you want animals that won’t hurt or scare visitors. They should be pretty enough to be impressive, but they can’t be too expensive or intimidating. It will also help if children aren’t tempted to smush them. So, I think the butterflies are a good choice. Nice to look at, they don’t zip around at high speed, and kids will probably not kill them. So there were a lot of butterflies around. We were asked to check ourselves for butterfly hitchhikers upon leaving.

The exit from the rain forest leads directly to the aquarium. I think the Academy tries a bit too hard, since it is a planetarium, natural history museum, aquarium, and more all in one. I think it loseWeight Exercises focus at times. Here is the text that accompanies this : "In their dependence on cheap energy, consumers rarely consider the cost to nature’s flora and fauna. The number of bluebirds declined up to 70 percent during the 1970′s from loss of habitat and has only slowly recovered since then, due to conservation efforts. Walkers mutant light-bulb bluebird serves as a ceramic "canary in the coal mine," warning viewers of an impending environmental disaster. This teapot depicts an American bluebird that appears to have ingested a giant light bulb. Metal conduit runs down the bird’s spine and to its legs, suggesting that they are powered electrically. The bluebird’s tail has morphed into a metal-clad snake, a mortal enemy of birds, and its metal-pipe spine has sprouted leaves, thus supplanting nature with a man-made hybrid.d ON an image of a U.S. penny concealed on the bird’s underbelly, the motto, "IN God We Trust" has been replaced by "United States of Consume".

Last Thanksgiving, I decided not to go back to Chicago, mostly because flying back to the Midwest is a pain in the butt and sorta expensive as well. I like to travel within the time zone, to minimize those hassles. So when Bruce and Tina extended an invitation to me to visit for Thanksgiving, I accepted it before they could explain that it was mostly sarcasm.

Visiting them is “interesting”, mostly due to their two young boys, Nile (20 months when I visited) and Cyrus (3 months), who are slowly draining their parents’ sanity. This was actually my first time meeting Cyrus. He was still blob-like at this age, but I liked Cyrus; he did not fuss when I held him, and we had some good conversations during tummy time. Nile was a bit suspicious of me, but allowed me to read some books to him. He’s pretty verbal at this age, although Tina is much more skilled at comprehending him than I am.

We were pretty ambitious for this Thanksgiving meal; I convinced Tina to try out the Good Eats Brined Turkey recipe, which makes for a deliciously moist turkey. It turned out well overall, although we were hampered by not having a true probe thermometer. I also made a slow-cooker cabbage dish that turned out pretty well, and a sausage stuffing that was delicious, although I should have chopped the walnuts within it a bit finer.

Overall, though, this was just an excuse to visit Bruce & Tina, two of my favorite people.

Anyways, here are some pictures of my visit, which will probably be used as evidence someday by Child Protective Services.

Nile loves the vacuum, which worries Bruce in general, not that there’s anything wrong with that. That’s what he’s pretending to do here. The toy lawnmower is the vacuum, and the spoon is the hose attachment. At the end of this vacuuming segment, Nile goes ahead and does something much more in line with other boys his age — make as much noise as possible.

This video shows a number of lessons. For one, never do anything enjoyable for a small child, or else they’ll just want you to repeat it ad infinitum. Secondly, it’s not the tickling that’s awesome, it’s the anticipation of the upcoming tickle.

I think running backs in the NFL should try this. Run with one hand holding a football, and one hand holding a small child. It would probably confuse the defenses.

Children are stupid. This is Nile playing hide and seek. One of the requirements of having a happy Nile is some sort of outdoor activity. Bruce and I went out to play some catch with the football, and brought Nile along to play in the dirt.

We had a recipe for a cranberry-based dipping sauce that we wanted to try out, so here are a bunch of frozen cranberries simmering in a sugary fluid.

When Nile wants to be Dad, he jumps up on the couch, gets under the covers, and pretends to control the television with the remote. This says all sorts of great things about Bruce’s fatherly persona.

Stuffing, cabbage, baked sweet potatoes, turkey, corn, and some wine. A fantastic Thanksgiving meal.

I don’t quite remember all that he is doing here, but I think he might be shaving while he’s on the phone while he’s vacuuming.

I like Cyrus. At this age, he’s like a sack of potatoes. In a good way.

I like this picture because of Nile’s orientation, and the fact that even though his contortions, he is still looking at the camera.

There is a 50% chance that ball came whizzing at my head after this picture.

After coming home from work and dealing with a cold, Bruce was pretty tired. This didn’t really stop Nile from climbing all over him, though.

Nile’s parents got him this real awesome toy vacuum cleaner that he absolutely loves.

This night, Bruce took over parenting duties so Tina and I could go get some dessert at the Colville St. Patisserie. It was difficult to decide on what to get, but I decided on this cinnamony appley thing. It was delicious, although i don’t quite remember what it was.

This is what Tina got. I don’t quite remember what it was, but that looks raspberryish.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ranjeetrao/4377598229/" title="Uh..Nile? Apparently, this is the typical aftermath of a meal with Nile.

Tina took me wine tasting and chocolate-having the day after Thanksgiving. I don’t have any pictures of the wine tasting, but here is a picture of chocolate. With a design on it. I forget what the flavor was, but I’m pretty sure I asked for it based on the design. Update: Tina reminds me this is an Earl Grey Truffle, and I did a bit of searching to remind myself that this was from Bright’s Candies.

Back in November, I used up some of my vacation days and visited Japan. Not just on a whim, mind you; when I travel, I travel to visit people. In this case, it’s my good friends Yusuke and Tomoko, old compatriots from High School (Yusuke) and undergrad (Tomoko). While I flew in from San Francisco, another friend from undergrad, Becky, flew in from Boston along with her boyfriend Steve. So in many ways, it was a little reunion with a lot of my favorite people.

While there, I was hosted by Yusuke and his wife Megumi, who did a great job accommodating my clumsy American ass in their typically small Japanese apartment. I also got to hang out with their dangerously adorable child Itsuki. How can adorableness be dangerous? Cute enough that she could take your stuff and break it and you would find it endearing. During the week, I spend most of my day traveling through Tokyo with Becky and Steve. I have been in Tokyo before, in 2006 and 2003 (apparently, I visit Japan every three years, like a fat and more frequent version of Halley’s Comet), but this was my first time acting as travel guide. Incidentally, I have decided that I am a qualified expert on Tokyo. And by “qualified”, I mean that I must significantly qualify that statement with caveats. If you took all the people in the world who have ever traveled to Tokyo, and then you remove all the Japanese people and all the people who have spent more than 6 weeks there, and then remove all the people who can actually read, write, or speak Japanese, out of all the people who are left, I probably know a lot more about Tokyo than most of them. So yeah, expert.

Why has it taken so long for me to post? I had vague expectations of actually annotating and geotagging the pictures before posting them, but now I realize that is just a pipe dream, and I should post it and get around to labeling pictures when I get around to labeling them. It also doesn’t help that as much as I like Flickr, their maps for Japan really really suck. Since I grabbed Yusuke’s pictures as well (he has a nice camera, so his pictures actually look nice, and they are actually of people), there are a lot of images, so I’m not posting them all on this page. So there is just the slideshow below and a link to the Flickr page.

The general narrative is that there are a lot of pictures & videos of Itsuki, since she’s distilled cuteness (she enjoys cats, stairs, and phones). In fact, people have commented that my videos have a “Jane Goodall”-esque quality to them, as if I’m filming animals in the wild. That’s probably just as well, since she can’t understand me and would just take the camera from me if she knew I was filming her. There are many pictures within Tokyo with Becky and Steve. We traveled to Takao-san, Kamakura, and Oyama, but spent most of our time in Tokyo. We visited a cat cafe, so that’s where the cat pictures come in. Tomoko got married way back in March 2009, but she and her husband were nice to hold off a wedding reception with their friends until Becky and I could visit, so that’s why we’re all dressed up.

Flickr set here. Feel free to check back every few weeks to see if I’ve put in descriptions and stuff (Ha!).

I was in Chicago at the end of July/beginning of August, but not three weeks later I found myself back again. Cameron and Gina were having a wedding reception! I know what you’re thinking. Wasn’t there some sort of reverend activity back in September? Well yes, there was. But you know, parents prefer it to see their kids getting married, rather than just hearing about it, so they decided to have a little ceremony in Chicago, and invite more than two people. I didn’t remember to take many pictures, because I was all caught up in the moment, but here they are, along with a picture courtesy of Dave Clutter.

Since the reception was in Chicago, I decided to just stay with my sister, who graciously offered me a place to crash at her new place on Irving Park. She also nicely drove me around so I didn’t have to EL it around, although it was fairly convenient to get to her place from Downtown on the Red and Brown lines. Anyways, here’s Sachin. He really loves to stick his tongue out, and I finally caught him on it. I wonder if this will change when his teeth come in.

A number of Gina’s relatives flew in from South Korea, so her father was on hand to walk her down the aisle.

This reception was, overall, pretty casual. With Drs. Stephen Downie and Allen Renear serving as MC and Officiant, respectively (both of the UIUC LIS department), there were quite a few information science jokes on the way to some heartfelt comments.

Cameron and Gina head out to start the receiving line. That’s what it’s called, right?

I’m not going to even try to identify all the Joneses and in-laws here. Let’s just say there are a lot of Joneses and one-off Joneses in this picture.

Dave Clutter took this picture of me, apparently pretending to be a Secret Service agent of some sort. Some may question my efficacy, but let me point out that no counterfeiting went on while I was posted there. Coincidence? I think not.

For the record, this was not just a stunt cake. Also, it was delicious.
