I have fond memories of Champaign's radio station; though I believe it was still Clear Channel format while I was there. They were the first to introduce me to Modest Mouse and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Most importantly, the radio station was an abrubt, and welcome change to the "focus-group-tested crap rock" that Chicago's Q101 became after Mancow came aboard.

Luckily for me, not more than 6 months went by before we moved to Portland and Bruce introduced me to 94.7 fm. It was like heaven in my ears. New music, researched by relatively intelligent professionals, geared toward independant alternative rock AND old school alternative rock -- unfortunately, the latter includes way too much Bob Marley. Nevertheless, it was and is still better than any other radio station I have ever listened to. It streams online if you'd care to check it out. This will undoubtedly be my preferred method of music-listening once we move to Walla Walla and I'm stuck with 15 stations consisting of country music, blue-grass, new-grass, and rap.
