Trick or Treat

So, last Thursday I was invited to a Halloween party. I didn’t have a costume. I never wear costumes. So I did the best that I could given a day to brainstorm. I figured that going topical would be my best bet.

This was pretty simple. I went as a voting booth. I bought a cheap white hoodie, bought some sharpies, and got some velcro strips to stick on the sweatshirt and keep the pens in order. I figured it would be topical, with the election only a few days away, and it would be interactive, since people would get to write on me. Also, since I’m in hippy Bay Area California, there would be minimal risk of altercation. Most of the guests would be European and thus all crazy liberal socialists, and any conservatives around would probably be good-naturedly resigned. I mean, you can’t have angry conservatives in the Bay Area, they would just have a stroke or something. Anyways, there were two women dressed as Palin, and Obama/Biden managed to split their vote (One Palin decided it would be very “mavericky” to vote for Obama; the other Palin made her vote in the form of a winking smiley). All those McCain votes, seriously, came from like three people. I think they were trying to be ironic. They were German; it probably made sense auf Deutsch. I decided to make my third column Barr/Root, given that I thought they’d get the next largest national percentage, but I probably should have gone Nader, considering my location. Some people weren’t happy with their options, though, so I had to put the write-ins on the back.

That blurry region is…uh…genitals. You stay classy, California! Anyways, we got a vote for W., a vote for Spider-man, two votes for Putin, etc. I’m not sure it was wise that I let my back go unsupervised. It was just asking for trouble.

Overall, it was well-received. I don’t think that I’ll be able to top that for a while, so I’ll probably just retire from the Halloween business for the next few years.
