Yet More Daily Show
I actually recall April 12th’s Daily Show as being one of the best of the year. But until now, I had no recourse to share! Warning: Full of Sarcasm!!!

Yet More Classics
Well, I just finished reading Stephen Colbert’s new book, I Am America (And So Can You!), so here’s a classic in his honor.

Glory of Glories
What, perchance, is this cat looking at? No doubt the new Daily Show Video Archive. While I mentioned it before, I hadn’t actually visited it until today. My gosh, the memories. It’ll be a lot easier to scrounge up classics now. Speaking of which, I always enjoyed the climax to this Ed Helms Segment:

A Suspicious Secret
Lately, I have found myself fascinated by PostSecret. For those not familiar with the concept, it started as a community art project for Artomatic, a “Multimedia Art Event”. The founder, Frank Warren, asked people to anonymously send in their secrets on postcards. The only rules were the that the secrets needed to be truthful, and they needed to actually be secrets. He has turned this into four books, the last of which just came out. While the books contain many secrets, a small number of new secrets are posted every week on Sunday (but no archive). The secrets themselves range from banal to funny to haunting. Psychologically speaking, I can see how sending an anonymous secret could be liberating, especially some of the darker ones you see.

My Blog Has Impressive Influence
A few weeks ago, I wrote a little diatribe about how limited the Comedy Central Video Vault is. Well, obviously Comedy Central’s parent company, Viacom, has listened to me and heeded my wisdom. They have announced that they will be putting the past 8 years of the Daily Show online. The video that I had embedded below that was “no longer available” is back up!
Viacom, your apology is accepted.
And to celebrate, here’s a Jon Stewart segment that I didn’t put up because I knew it would be taken down within a few weeks.

Another Year Older, Another Year….Older
Well, another birthday has come and gone. Nothing really exciting happened, which is somewhat disappointing. Every year that goes by, I always hope for some latent superpowers to develop. Some weird crick in my DNA, working on a 28-year time delay. But, try as I might, I could not levitate anything with my mind. Of course, there is the chance that I have developed superpowers already, I just don’t know what they are or how to use them. How do you use a muscle you have never used before? I still have no idea how I figured out to wiggle my ears.
However, I have been impressed with the outpouring of support and adulation that this edition of my birthday has brought forth. There’s pretty much no one I can make feel guilty for forgetting my birthday. Actually, it kind of reminds me of a birthday I had a number of years ago, when Yusuke secretly e-mailed a bunch of people telling them it was my birthday and that they should e-mail me to congratulate me. I was pleasantly surprised by the response, until one guy actually put in his e-mail “Yusuke told me to e-mail you”, which kinda broke the spell. And made me forever mistrustful.
Don’t think I’m not onto you.

The Death & Rebirth of (my) Illinois Spirit
Yeah, yeah, the title of this post is just a little bit melodramatic. But there’s a point; I just have to get to it. I’ve always wondered why I (and many other people, for that matter) get so worked about sports. We’ve made up extensive rules about being a fan, we invest hundreds or thousands of dollars in tickets and clothing, travel hundreds of miles to see games, etc. I can totally understand the reason for going to sporting events. You know, watching feats of human endurance, strength, and skill ; Faster, Higher, Stronger and all that jazz. Sports are just as compelling and entertaining as movies. But somewhere along the way, it gets twisted. And for a while, I thought I had it licked. Continue Reading »

Nostalgia….Can You Smell It?
I’m not a huge video game person. In fact, I am pathologically unable to complete a game that lasts more than a few hours. But I do enjoy hearing about video games, and I do enjoy reminiscing about video games. Every once in a while I visit Gametrailers to see what new stuff is out, because I’m just so amazed at what the next-gen systems can do. Along the way, I stumbled across the Angry Video Game Nerd, a foul-mouthed New Jerseyite geek with a penchant for playing old games and belaboring them on their poor design. Rated R for language (hence the age warning on the video), I just can’t stop laughing at them. Here is a review for the old NES Silver Surfer game. Crude? Oh, absolutely. But I can relate.

Comedy Central’s Video Vault
I see now that some Daily Show videos I have posted below are not unavailable. More specifically, some of the stuff that would normally be listed under the categories of “Headlines” or “In The News” or “Snark“. What the hell, CC? You should at least check with this web page before you go and reclaim hard drive space by deleting video off of your server. I mean, some of the beginning segments on TDS are mind-blowingly brilliant, yet they will likely never be seen again, since they won’t fit your strange categories in your online archive, which I have to say is really strangely organized. Don’t get me wrong; I love the online-ness of TDS; if I didn’t do that I might be forced to, uh, find a friend who downloads them and watch them there. I will gladly view a few ads to stream them easily and freely, but you should really find a way to keep the best ones. Like maybe allow some sort of voting system, and take the best 10 segments of the month and move them into permanent storage or something. Don’t make me resort to more deep linking!
